Geumgang Nature Art Biennale

Geumgang Nature Art Biennale is an international nature art exhibition planned by Yatoo, Korea Nature Art Association established in 1981 that pursued nature art around Gongju of Chungnam Provice, and jointly hosted with Daejeon MBC. Based on Yatoo's experience of planning and hosting an international nature art event since the early 1990s, the first Biennale was held in 2004 through the sponsor of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, South Chungcheong Province and Gongju city.

Through the three weeks, the artists from around the world live together and create their works while introduction session for the nature art project, international nature art seminar and other programs are conducted in parallel. Programs to introduce the Korean culture to foreign artists and IWO campers and 'patchwork for nature and peace' created together with children and other citizens are also available during the exhibition period. The works of the artists will be displayed in Mt. Yeonmisan Nature Park to allow visitors to observe how they change through time.

During the 'pre-Biennale' period, idea sketches and objects created with natural objects sent around the world will be displayed in rotation in places around Korea. All works will be used to select the participating artists of the next Biennale.

The organizing committee of Geumgang Nature Art Biennale welcomes contribution of artists wishing to participate in the Biennale throughout the year and is waiting for the data and material of everyone interested including artists, exhibition planners and art critics who are interested in nature art and wish to share their ideas.

Yatoo
Name of Korea Nature Art Association that studies nature art. The meaning is to 'throw in the field,' with the word 'Ya' meaning the field, or the nature, and 'Too' representing to throw, or to express.

Nature Art
Pursued by Yatoo from the early 1980s. Installation works or simple drawings created on the spot. With nature art, the nature is not merely the target of expression but one that directly works within art. Nature art also represents Yatoo's way of expression. Koreans have lived in harmony with nature and the perception is materialized through the expression method of modern art.

Nature Art Park
A new type of art park where Yatoo's nature art is practiced. The park is created through Geumgang Nature Art Biennale and the works installed on the spot are constantly changed based upon their life cycle.
