​<생성과 소멸 Creation and Extinction>

 아리스토텔레스는 자연철학의 구도를 모든 사물을 형상과 질료로 분석해서 다루었다. 형상을 발견하기가 쉽지 않은 흙, 공기 같은 질료적 존재보다는 형상의 동일성과 질료의 운동을 함께 파악하면서 지적 기쁨을 느낀다 하였다.

본인의 작업 동기는 “질료와 형상”을 설명하는 곳에서 시작되었다. 그리하여 화가에게는 숙명이라 할 수 있는 물감이라는 문명의 산물인 인공의 재료를 주제로 회화작업으로 형상화하고 있다.

이번 2022년 금강자연미술비엔날레에서는 세상의 모든 구조물은 자연적이든 인공적이든 질료와 형상으로 이루어진다는 콘셉트를 조형적으로 구현하고자 한다.

조형물로 설치될 사각형의 형상은 공간성을 의미하며 그 위에서 흘러내리거나 덩어리져 붙어있는 흙의 형상은 기후변화에 의해 달라지는 까닭에 시간성을 의미한다. 흙이란 인간의 손이 닿지 않는다면 다시 원시 자연으로 되돌아가 섞이어 인간과 동물이 발을 딛고 서 있을 수 있고 식물이 자라날 수 있는 다시 야생의 힘을 가지고 있다. 이것은 그저 추상적이고 영원성을 가진 존재가 아니라 시간 속에서 변해가는 존재, 무수한 관계 속에서 달라지는 존재이다. ‘변화’는 실재 자체의 생성과 소멸을 뜻한다. 형상은 시간을 담고 있다. 변화를 겪어내기 때문이다. 즉 자연법칙이 깃들어있다.

In his natural philosophy (philosophy of physis), Aristotle treated all the things by dividing them into form and matter. He said that he felt intellectual pleasure while figuring out uniformity of forms and movement of matters rather than while treating matter beings like soil or air whose forms are difficult to discern.

My working motive started from explaining 'matter and form'. Painters make forms using the artificial matter called paints.

In the 2022 Geumgang Nature Art Biennale, I want to embody with sculptures the concept that all the structures in the world, whether natural or artificial, are composed of matter and form.

The square form which will be installed as a sculpture signifies spatiality, and the forms of soil which has flown down on it or sticks to it as lumps mean time as they change with the change of climate.

If untouched by humans, soil, over time, returns to nature, on which humans and animals can stand on it, and plants can prosper by sending roots into it.

It is not an abstract or permanent being, but an existence which is changing with time, and relations with numerous other beings.

'Change' means birth and extinction of existence.

Forms contain time, because they have changed. They contain natural laws.
