엄니 Tusk

영원히 살기 위해서는, 가장 기본적으로 먹이를 먹고 자신을 보호해야 한다. 지구 상에서, 살아 남기 위해서는 식물, 동물, 또는 인간 등 모든 종의 포식자들의 공격에 대비한 방어 시스템을 갖추어야 한다. 인간의 공격이 가장 파괴적인데, 이는 안전과 편안함에 대한 인간의 야망이 끝이 없기 때문이다. 그때부터, 모든 것은 착각처럼 보인다: 급증하는 탐욕이 공간을 황폐화 시키고, 동물을 노예로 만들고, “위험”을 숨긴다. 동물 가운데 가장 힘이 센 코끼리의 엄니는 지구를 파괴할 수 있는 무기를 지닌 인간에 비해 아주 보잘것없어 보인다. 아주 부질없는 이유에 들떠서, 인간은 대학살의 공범이 된다.

그럼에도 불구하고, 그 와중에 도피처를 만들면, 의식이 깨어날 수 있다. 사색할 시간, 숨을 쉴 공간, 자연과의 소통, 세상과 관계를 맺을 새로운 기회를 우리에게 제공할 수 있다.

To perpetuate itself, the most rudimentary of lives needs to feed and protect itself. The tusks of the elephant, the most powerful of animals, seem very derisory against the one who has weapons capable of destroying the planet. Conceited for very futile reason, they make each accomplice of the massacre.

Yet by taking refuge in it, consciousness could wake up. Taking time to meditate, to breathe space, to enter into communion with nature, a new chance of relationship with the world could be offered to us …
