우상의 성소 A Sanctuary with Idols – 3 Pieces

나는 레펜스키 비어(Lepenski Vir)로부터 영감을 받아, ”우상과 조형물의 성소(A Sanctuary with Idols/ sculptures)”라는 작품을 만들고자 한다.

“레펜스키 비어는 중석기 및 신석기시대를 아우르는, 가장 규모가 크고 유의미한 고고학적 장소이다. 이것은 발칸반도의 중심에 위치한, 세르비아의 제르답 협곡 내에 다뉴브강 우측 기슭에 위치한다…”

“…레펜스키 비어에서 발견된 석조 신상들은 유럽에서 발견된 가장 오래된 기념비적인 석조물들이다. 처음엔, 기괴한 표정을 한 머리만 있었으나, 이후 이 조각상들은 사람의 형태를 한 모습을 갖추게 된다.

이들 조각상 외에도, 돌, 뼈, 뿔로 만들어진 수많은 도구와 무기뿐 아니라, 조개껍데기와 자갈로 만들어진 도기와 악세사리도 이곳에서 함께 발견되었다. 이러한 증거들을 바탕으로 볼 때, 당시 다뉴브 강기슭에 살았던 최초의 거주민들은 소위 신석기혁명이라 불리던 시대에 살고 있었으며, 최초로 토지를 경작하고 야생동물들을 길들여 사육했던 사람들이었을 것이다….”

따라서, 나는 레펜스키 비어에서 발견된 조형물을 바탕으로, 톱밥과 지푸라기, 흙으로 지구의 우상을 만들 것이다. 성소 전체엔 세 개의 우상이 존재하고, 그들이 기도 의식을 가졌던 성스러운 장소가 있다.

“성소는 내부에 자리하고 있으며, 내부의 크기에 따라, 조형물과 우상, 인간 및 동물 형상이 만들어진다. 성소의 가운데에는 이곳의 상징물이기도 한, 물고기를 닮은 제단이 있다…”

날씨로부터 조형물들을 보호하기 위해 우상이 있는 성소를 실내에 배치하는 것이 좋겠다. 또는 갈대나 대나무, 혹은 플렉시 유리처럼 투명한 현대적 재료를 사용하여 덮개를 만들 수도 있다. 이는 모두 햇빛과 비바람, 눈비와 같은 기상조건으로부터 조형물들을 보호하기 위함이다.

I would like to create ”A Sanctury with Idols/ sculptures” in connection and with the inspiration of Lepenski Vir…

“Lepenski Vir is one of the largest and most significant Mesolithic and Neolithic archeological sites. It is located on the right bank of the Danube in the Djerdap Gorge, in Serbia, in the central part of the Balkan Peninsula…”

“…Stone idols found in Lepenski Vir represent the oldest monumental stone sculptures found in Europe. At first they only had a head with a strange expression, while in later stages these figurines had anthropomorphic shapes.

Besides these figurines numerous tools and arms made of stone, bone and antler, pottery and jewelry made of shells and pebbles were found here. Based on these evidence we can conclude that these first inhabitants of the Danube banks lived at the time of the so called Neolithic revolution, when the first communities started working the land and tamed some animals….”

So, I would make sculptures - Idols of earth/ soil/ sawdust and straw based on sculptures found in the Lepenski vir... The whole Sanctuary would be made up of three idols and the place for sacrificed and where they were prayed.

“Sanctuaries were made in the interior and depending on the size of the interior, sculptures, idols/ human and animal figures were made, symbol of this site, monumental fishlike/… in the middle of the sanctuary was an altar…”

It would be good that A Sanctury with Idols can be inside in order to protect sculptures from the weather or it should be made a canopy above them from the reeds, bamboo or some transparent, modern material such as klirit/ to provide shade or shelter from weather conditions such as sun, hail, snow and rain.
