자가수정하는 자연

자가수정하는 자연 (Selfing Nature)은 우리의 일탈과 단절의 문화를 강조하려는 의도를 가지고 있다. 자연으로부터 문화적 단절이 빠른 속도로 계속되기 때문에, 기술이 개인의 행동을 어떻게 변화시키는지, 그 결과 사회가 어떻게 변하는지를 이해하는 것은 중요하다.

기술은 우리가 소통하는 방식에 크게 영향을 미쳤다. 오늘날, 현실의 체험이 가상 현실에 의해 중재되는 경우가 많다. 현대 사회는 새로운 문화를 창조하고 있는데, 자연과의 교류나 사람들 상호 간의 교류가 현재의 순간에서 우리를 데려가는 ‘스크린’에 의하여 변형되고, 실제 삶의 경험의 질을 하락시킨다.

내 작품은 자연의 보존 이슈, 그리고 자연에 있는 재료들과 풍경에 대한 우리의 관계를 다룬다. 나는 자연 환경의 마술성과 아름다움을 강조하고, 그래서 자연에 대해서뿐만 아니라 예술에 대한 의식과 감식안에 대한 영감을 불러일으키는 이야기들을 구성하기 위하여, 형태, 재료, 그리고 대상 사이의 유사성을 끌어낸다.

Selfing Nature intends to highlight our culture of Distractions and Disconnections.

As cultural detachment from nature continues at a fast pace it is important to discern how technology changes individual behavior and how societies change as a result.

Technology has greatly impact the way we communicate, in our contemporary society the experience of the real is often mediated by the virtual. Modern society is creating a culture were the interaction with Nature and to each other is transformed by the ‘screen’ taking us out of the present moment, lowering the quality of real life experiences.

My work examines issues of conservation and our relationship to natural materials and landscapes. I draw analogies between forms, materials and objects to construct narratives that accentuate the magic and beauty of the natural environment, and thus inspire consciousness and appreciation for art as well as for nature.
