2016 세 가지 물 B

2002년부터 시작된 영상설치작업 “세 가지 물”은 물과 생활자기, DVD플레이어 및 프로젝터가 재료로 사용되며 두 가지 방식으로 설치 및 전시된다. 거꾸로 된 문자 WATER가 벽면에 영사되고, 그 벽과 접한 바닥에 물이 가득 담긴 1000여개의 크기가 다른 생활도자기가 가지런히 놓이고 생활자기에 담긴 물위에 ‘WATER’로 반영되는 것이 하나며(세 가지 물 A), 다른 하나는 물이 담긴 생활자기에 거꾸로 된 문자 WATER가 직접 영사되어 벽면에 ‘WATER’로 반영되는 것이 그것이다(세 가지 물 B). “세 가지 물B”의 물은 관객의 발걸음과 몸짓에 민감하게 반응하며, 이는 벽면에 반영된 형상에 확대되어 나타난다.두 가지 모두 시간이 지남에 따라 물이 증발하면서 반영된 형상 또한 서서히 변화하며, 관람객과 전시장의 조건, 날씨가 그 변화의 속도에 영향을 끼친다. 결국에는 그릇에 담긴 모든 물의 증발과 함께 벽과 바닥에 반영된 ‘WATER’도 사라진다. 화소들이 모여 영상을 만들어 내듯이, 그릇에 담긴 물과 물이 이어져 하나의 영상과 문자를 반영하고, 그 반영된 빛은 다시 반사하여 주위에 반영된다. 그리하여 세 가지 물은 네 가지, 여섯 가지가 된다.

Three types of water B 2016

"Three types of water" is an image installation work that started in 2002. It uses water, pottery used in daily life, a DVD player and a projector in two ways. Reversed letters of the word, WATER are projected onto the wall and 1,000 pieces of pottery of different sizes are arranged in a neat way holding water. The pottery pieces are placed where the wall meets the floor. Onto the water held by pottery, the word ‘WATER’ is projected in a reversed manner(Three types of Water A). The other method is to have the inversed letters of WATER projected directly onto the wall (Three types of water B). The water in "Three types of Water B" reacts sensitively to the footsteps and gestures of the audience. This reaction is expanded and reflected onto the wall. Two types see the water evaporate over time, which leads to the projected image to gradually change as well. The audience, the conditions of the exhibition space, and the weather all affect the pace at which that change occurs. In the end, when all the water in the bowl evaporates, the letters of ‘WATER’ that were projected onto the wall and floor also disappear. Just as numerous pixels come together to make an image, the water in numerous bowls connect with one another to reflect the image and letters. The reflected light is re-reflected in the surrounding space. So the three types of water become four or six types.
