  <솔곰 Pine Bear>

금강을 끼고 송림(松林)으로 우거져 있는 이곳 연미산은 곰과 나무꾼의 ‘사랑 아닌 사랑이야기’가 천년의 설화로 전해지고 있다.

나는 이야기 속 곰이 아닌 산 중턱에 묵묵히 서있는 두 그루의 소나무에 주목한다. 소나무들은 오랜 세월을 뿌리내리며 숲속에서 일어난 많은 비밀한 일들을 모두 지켜보았을 것이다. 때로는 사람들이 주고받는 곰 이야기도 흥미롭게 들었을 것이다.

나는 두 달 동안 건축전문가들과 함께 두 그루의 소나무를 10M 크기의 곰의 형상으로 위장시켰다. 이제 사람들은 곰 안으로 들어와 2층과 3층 전망대에 오르게 되고 바깥 숲을 내려다보며 저마다의 이야기를 속삭일 것이다. 그리고 두 소나무는 여전히 침묵하며 아주 가까이서 우리들의 이야기를 들어줄 것이다.

Mt. Yeonmi covered with pine trees and surrounded by the Geum River has cherished a one-thousand-year legend of 'the story of love-less love' between a female bear and a woodcutter.

I focus not on the legendary bear, but on the two pine trees standing silently on the slope of the mountain. The pine trees must have watched many secret happenings which have occurred in the forest for a long time. They may have heard people talk about the legendary bear.

For two months, I disguised the two pine trees as the figure of the 10m tall bear. Now, visitors can enter the bear, climb to the observatories in the second and third floors, and chat to each other looking down at the forest. And, the two pine trees close by will silently listen to our stories.
