<젠고, 보아뱀 Jengo, Boa Constrictor>

우리는 스코틀랜드 스카이 섬에 있는 그의 울타리 안 서식지에서 젠고를 만났다. 보아뱀인 그는 허물을 벗은 상태였다.

내가 20대 초반, 네덜란드 정부 개발원조 업무로 아프리카에 갔을 때는 뱀에 물릴 가능성에 대비했었다. 

하지만 그런 일은 일어나지 않았고, 그때 본 대부분의 뱀들은 이미 죽어 있었으며, 흙길 위에 누워 교통사고로 희생된 상태였다.

We found Jengo in his enclosed habitat on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. As a Boa Constrictor he had happily shed his skin. 

When I travelled to Africa, being in my early twenties, working for the Dutch Government in Development Aid, I prepared myself for the possibility I might die from a snake bite.

 It didn't happen and the majority of snakes I saw at that time were dead and on the dirt roads, being victims of the traffic.
