<우도피아 Udopia>

<우도피아>는 우도와 유토피아의 합성어이다. 제주 우도에 거주하며 내가 직접 배출한 쓰레기와 우도 바다에서 수집한 해양 쓰레기를 모아 만든 작품이다. 

아름다운 자연과 풍경으로 유토피아처럼 여겨지는 우도는, 관광객과 해류에 의해 쌓이는 쓰레기로 지속 가능성의 위기를 맞고 있다. 이 작품은 우도가 과연 앞으로도 유토피아일 수 있을지, 우리가 꿈꾸는 유토피아란 무엇인지 묻는다.

Udopia is a compound of “Udo” and “Utopia.” Living on Jeju’s Udo Island, I created this work using the trash I personally generated along with marine debris collected from Udo’s waters.

 Udo, often regarded as a utopia for its beautiful nature and landscapes, now faces a sustainability crisis due to waste accumulated by tourists and ocean currents. 

This work questions whether Udo can continue to be a utopia and what the utopia we envision truly means.
