<쪽빛의 밤> Indigo Light Night

〈쪽빛의 밤〉은 쪽(Persicaria tinctoria)의 재배와 생애 주기를 중심으로 완결된 순환형 예술 과정을 구현한 작품이다.

전통 공예를 현대적인 생태적 탐구의 관점에서 재해석한 이 작업은, 일반적으로 농업 폐기물로 버려지는 발효 후 식물 잔여물을 수제 종이 제작의 주된 원료로 활용한다. 

이렇게 만들어진 유기적이고 다층적인 색조의 종이 바탕 위에, 동일한 식물 재료에서 추출한 천연 쪽빛 안료를 사용하여 염색함으로써 작품을 완성한다.

보존 처리한 식물 요소를 더한 이 연작은 씨앗에서 완성된 형태에 이르기까지 하나의 재료가 온전히 연결되는 과정을 보여준다. 

보존용 유리 케이스 안에 구성된 작품은 천연 섬유가 지닌 구조적 가능성을 탐구하는 동시에, 선형적인 예술 생산 방식에 의문을 제기한다.

버려질 수 있는 유기적 잔여물을 빛나는 푸른색의 장으로 전환함으로써, 이 프로젝트는 천연자원의 생애 주기 각각의 단계에 내재된 고유한 가치를 조명한다. 실내 전시를 위해 제작된 이 작품들은 환경에 대한 지혜를 물질적으로 드러내는 표지와도 같다. 전통적인 수공예, 순환적 재료 과정, 현대 시각예술이 서로 만나 물리적 환경과 인간의 관계를 새롭게 바라보는 방식을 제시한다.

Indigo Light Night embodies a closed-loop artistic process centered on the cultivation and life cycle of Japanese Indigo (Persicaria tinctoria).

Reinterpreting traditional craft through contemporary ecological inquiry, the work utilizes post-fermentation plant residue typically discarded as agricultural waste as the primary raw material for hand-papermaking. 

The resulting organic, multi-tonal paper substrate forms the foundation for the compositions, which are subsequently dyed using natural indigo pigment extracted from the exact same plant batch.

Complemented by preserved botanical elements, the series demonstrates a complete material unity from seed to finished form. 

Bound within archival glass enclosures, the work explores the structural potentials of natural fibers while questioning linear systems of artistic production. 

By transforming raw organic remnants into luminous blue fields, the project highlights the intrinsic value embedded in every stage of a natural resource's life cycle. 

Designed for indoor exhibition, these works act as physical markers of environmental intelligence, reflecting how traditional handcraft, circular material processes, and contemporary visual arts can converge to reframe our connection with the physical environment.
