Ur-Form

〈Ur-form〉은 출산과 여성의 신체에 대한 작가의 사유를 바탕으로 제작된 도자 작품이다.

작가는 2007년 미국 테네시의 ‘The Farm’에서 조산사이자 활동가인 이나 메이 개스킨(Ina May Gaskin)과 한 달간 교류하며 출산의 경험과 여성의 신체에 대해 탐구했다. 출산을 직접 목격하고 조산사 교육 과정에 참여한 경험은 생명의 기원과 여성의 신체가 지닌 본능적이고 관능적인 힘에 대한 작가의 관심을 심화시켰다.

여러 형태의 도자 용기로 구성된 Ur-form은 이러한 사유를 바탕으로 원초적인 생명과 다산의 이미지를 환기하며, 여성의 신체와 생명력에 내재한 근원적 힘을 표현한다.

Ur-form is a ceramic work based on the artist’s reflections on childbirth and the female body.

In 2007, the artist spent a month at The Farm in Tennessee, where she engaged with midwife and activist Ina May Gaskin to explore experiences of childbirth and the female body. Witnessing a birth and participating in a midwifery course deepened the artist’s interest in the origins of life and the instinctive and sensual power of the human body.

Composed of ceramic vessels in clustered forms, Ur-form evokes images of primordial life and fertility, expressing the fundamental strength inherent in the female body and its life-giving force.
