<사각과 원 사이> Between Square and Circle

〈사각과 원 사이〉는 기하학적 질서와 자연의 흐름 사이의 관계를 탐구하는 장소특정적 설치 작품이다. 이 작품은 3개의 기울어진 대나무 구조물로 구성되어 있으며, 현대 도시 건축의 지배적 형태인 견고한 직육면체를 변형하여 열린 잔디 공간으로 끌어들인다.

견고하고 폐쇄적인 벽 대신 철제 프레임 위에 전통 대나무 엮기 기법을 적용해 빛과 바람이 드나드는 구조를 만들었다. 원형 입구와 아치형 통로는 직선적 구조에 변화를 주며 내부와 외부의 경계를 흐린다. 엮인 틈 사이로 햇빛이 스며들며 잔디 위에 시시각각 변화하는 기하학적 그림자를 드리우고, 관람객은 작품 안으로 들어가 그 사이를 거닐며 예술과 빛, 주변 자연환경이 나누는 역동적인 대화를 경험하게 된다.

Between Square and Circle is a site-specific installation that explores the relationship between geometric order and natural flow. The artwork consists of three tilted bamboo frameworks, transforming rigid rectangular cubes — the dominant forms of modern urban architecture — and bringing these forms onto the open lawn.

Instead of solid, impenetrable walls, the structure is crafted using traditional bamboo weaving techniques applied over steel frames, creating a permeable, breathable skin. Circular cutouts and arched portals interrupt the straight lines, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior spaces. As sunlight filters through the woven lattice, it projects changing geometric shadows across the grass, inviting visitors to step inside and walk through, experiencing a dynamic dialogue between art, light, and the surrounding natural environment.
